Today is going to be an unusually warm 50 degrees (I even left a window open in my apartment to the great excitement of my cat), so I decided to bust out that spring flavor. And I’m readjusting my morning schedule since waking up in the dark is no fun. You know what is fun? Bright and colorful tights.
My morning was actually the opposite of today’s title, because thanks to the daylight saving switch, waking up this morning was tough. We’re back to darker mornings for a while, so I had to up the brightness quite high on this picture to see anything. Crossing my fingers the weather decides to start acting springy, and I’m going to do my part and start springing into action on some life improvements. We’ll see how it goes.
While this isn’t always true, often times when I’m feeling not so hot I try to dress better as a life-pick-me-up. There have been colds and flu around my office, and I’ve felt a little worn down. Crossing my fingers it’s all nothing, and dressing in comfy but cute attire works for me.
I feel like I’m reaching a point where I’ll start repeating parts of outfits if not whole outfits completely. When it comes to cold weather, I only have so much creativity. This picture was taken from the vantage point of one very sleepy (and very cute) boyfriend. Definitely one of those days I wish I could stay home and wrapped up in blankets. Don’t mind my huge pile of laundry.
This is the first time these jeans have been brought out into the world in many months. Sometime last fall or summer the zipper broke at the base, becoming disconnected and lost a few prongs, or whatever you call them. Since I spent some time working on my robe project last night, it made sense to finally attempt to fix these jeans. They’re my relatively expensive “nice” jeans, and I want to keep them in rotation. Long term plan will probably require replacing the whole zipper, but for now I used some fabric glue (best fixer ever) and stitches to create a new zipper end. Maybe it’ll last, maybe not. We’ll see.
I made the mistake last night of updating my phone right before bed, which led to waiting around for my phone/alarm to be ready to take to bed. (Romantic, I know) I passed the time by following updates on the Oscars and watching videos of segments, including Pharrell’s “Happy.” I’d heard this on the radio but didn’t realize it was him, as I’m used to his much different collaborations and N.E.R.D stuff. Anyway, I love it, and it’s impossible not to feel lifted a bit by watching and listening.
As a result of said late-night waiting around, I was not feeling waking up early this morning. Threw together a simple outfit that felt classy and got me through a morning buried in Excel and reports. Whoop!
One final note: if you build it, the cat will hang out in it. I just did this to make myself laugh, and without hesitation Sabrina had to check it out for herself.
I was feeling extra goofy this morning. I’m pretty lucky Jeremy puts up with how much of a morning person I can be sometimes — it even surprises me!
When I woke up this morning my phone said that the “real feel” outside was a nice and cozy -10 degrees. That was all I needed to read to know that layers would be essential today. Luckily I finally got a big load of laundry done so I had more options. Wool socks over normal socks, three shirt layers and a thick wool cardigan, and voila! Essential warmth achieved.
I was playing around with this striped dress on Monday but couldn’t find the right way to wear it while staying warm all day. A large backlog of laundry limits my sweater and cardigan layer options. While debating getting out of bed this morning this combination popped in my head. Wearing fun and colorful clothing definitely improves my mood. And even though it’s still far too cold, the sun it out! (It’s the little things)
Crazy day at work! Had my head buried and almost forgot. The layers and bulk are back now that the temps have dropped.
